Originated from Turkey, these sultanas are smaller and sweeter than ordinary raisins. They are dried, cleaned and then slightly coated with vegetable oil.
To make them moister, put them in a warm liquid (water, rum, tea, fruit juice) before cooking. Sultanas are perfect for sweet and salty food : you can use them in appetizers, dishes and desserts. Spirnkle them over your salads, beetroots, cheese, ...etc. They go perfectly well with poultry, lamb, game and beef and are very common in oriental food such as tajines and couscous. For your pastries, add them to your cakes, cookies, muffins, pies, ice creams, ...etc. They are much used in breads, brioches and viennoiseries like the famous raisin roll.
